Cover Girl Insider

She’s a two-time Ms. Fitness World champ, an Olympic silver medalist, a whiz in the kitchen and on fire when she hits the gymnastics mat.

By Sandy Braz

IN THE GYM

Vanda, silver medalist in gymnastics at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, still puts her formal gymnastics training to use. Her hard work has garnered her two Ms. Fitness World titles. Here’s a glimpse of what she does to train those muscles.

Monday: Chest and biceps
• Stability ball dumbbell chest presses superset with push ups
• Stability ball dumbbell chest flyes
• EZ-bar biceps curls
• Weighted straight bar curls

Tuesday: Gymnastics training and abs
• Gymnastics routine practice
• 20 V-sits and 20 crunches

Wednesday: Glutes and legs
• Kneeling cable kickback
• Split lunges
• Cable front kicks

Thursday: Gymnastics training and abs
• Stability ball V-sits
• Oblique crunches

Friday: Shoulders
• Front, side and bent-over cable raises

Saturday: Gymnastics training and abs
• Gymnastics routine practice
• Stability ball crunches
• Reverse crunches

Sunday: Rest

“I love training on unstable surfaces,” says Vanda, who finds this type of training helps target her core strength throughout her workout.

MEAL PLANNING

For Vanda, meal planning is essential, so she’s come to rely on some great recipes that pack in a combination of protein and carbs.

Check out a few of her top meals:

1. Egg white omelette loaded with fiber-rich spinach.
“Sometimes I have salads in the morning,” she says, “and I love when I do that.”

2. Yogurt with a drizzle of honey and blueberries (great pre-workout snack).

3. Homemade pizza. “I layer a whole wheat pita with lots of spinach, pre-cooked chicken, mushrooms, red pepper, tomato and low-fat feta cheese,” says Vanda.
