Question of the Month:

What are the ideal proportions for a female fitness competitor? It’s very easy to find proportional charts for men, but I can’t find one for women. If I knew, it might help me to pinpoint my goals.

Expert’s Response

Contrary to what you may hear from the fashion industry, there is no “magical” measurement requirement for female fitness competitors or fitness models, nor is there any perfect body fat percentage. The women you admire on the cover of Oxygen range in all different heights, shapes and sizes. Oxygen focuses on a fit, healthy, charismatic appearance. To model in fitness, measurements are typically taken for chest, waist and hips; to be successful, the most important attribute is proportion and symmetry. As a result, magazines, agencies and sponsors seek out women with a balance between their lower and upper bodies. Don’t pigeonhole yourself into a numbers game. Focus on your symmetry to present your best package!
