Her workout: Being a fitness consultant isn’t just Brittany’s job – it’s part of her workout. She teaches classes almost daily ranging from Pilates to “Bootysize,” also incorporating athletic yoga into her routine on her active rest days. “I use my own body weight and resistance to train. I love cardio and am constantly moving around. Since I’m a nature-loving woman, I have to be outdoors cycling, running with my dog, rollerblading, skiing or mountain biking.”
Best training move: Once on the all-state gymnastics team, Brittany says her best move includes yoga’s infamous series of poses, the sun salutations. “This move hits every muscle group targeting your abdominals while in plank, shoulders and triceps when lowering down into plank and then pushing yourself up back into downward dog,” says Brittany. “It also targets the glutes and hips. And you can raise the heart rate by speeding up the movement.”
Good advice: For gym first-timers, Brittany says, “Don’t be afraid of the equipment or other people. We were all newbies at one time and no one is born understanding the gym.” She adds that approaching trainers on the gym floor or even a class instructor is a good idea if you want to get a sense of how to get your workouts going.
Her role model: “Mandy Blank,” says Brittany, who is inspired by Mandy’s body and positive attitude about working out. “She is such a fitness-forward thinker.”
