Hi Oxygen fans,
I went to the Olympia in Las Vegas last weekend and came home all fired up! It's so great to be surrounded by athletes that have worked so hard to reach their goals. It was the first time I'd seen the Bikini and WOW, I'm going to be working on my glutes after seeing all those tight little buns!! It was fun to see the fitness gals, I love the routines as it brings back the good ol days when I competed. I have such a respect for how much work goes into every little leap, pushup, and flip! The figure gals were beautiful, I'd hate to have to judge them.
Sitting next to my husband, Gunter, who has competed in the Olympia for many years, we couldn't help but reflect back on the former days of bodybuilding and fitness. The bodybuilders have gotten so much bigger and the girls have packed on MUCH more muscle. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Don't get me wrong, I love muscle, but I have to question how much is too much.
I have to say though, I agreed with the judges as they seemed to reward the more feminine physiques in the figure and bikini division. Oxygen Beauties Erin Stern and Nicole Wilkins deservingly stole the spotlight in figure.
Bikini winner Nathalia Melo displayed the perfect amount of muscle to support here low body fat without looking too "skinny". She had a great personality – cute, not too over-the-top with the sex appeal, and a natural beauty that stood out on stage. Adela Garcia took the title
for the fitness. I'm not sure how she keeps doing it! Fitness is so demanding on your body and she is unstoppable!
Phil Heath was amazing and Kai Green was right on his tale! It made for a great show.
There is no better way to get inspired then going to the Olympia. My hats off to all the athletes! I'm off to the gym to work on my buns!
I'd love to hear your opinion on how much muscle is too much. It's a controversial topic, but one that I think is worth hearing your opinion.
Train hard,
Kim
